Baby on the Way

A friend of mine is having a baby and I love to crochet. I love the cute things that you can make for babies, but I do not have the patience for many of the baby blankets and such. So I wanted to make a little amigurumi toy, but what to make? I couldn't find any patterns that I liked. I found two bunnies that were cute, but one was too small and the other had confusing directions. So I made my own pattern. I had to rip out the body and start again twice, I had to rip out the ears once, but the arms and legs went well. So here he is... Jack Rabbit!

I think I might be obsessed.

As evident by this blog I really like amigurumi, but two months ago you would never have known it. I didn't think that I would have the patience for these projects, but the truth is they are right up my alley. Most of the projects are quick and easy. All I used to do was hats and scarves. I still love them, but I found that I love amigurumi guys too.

Today I made a present for my sister. It is a free pattern I got from Lion Brand's website. It's a little pig. Mine didn't turn out perfect, but I think he's cute and my sister really likes him.

His ears turned out bigger than they should have, but for me it's more about the process, I don't keep many of my creations I usually give them away.

Here's the pattern: http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/70589AD.html?noImages=

I really liked the idea, but...

I enjoy spending time online finding crochet patterns and crafts. Let me tell you that there are some extremely creative people out there! One of these people inspired me quite a bit. You can find her work here.

Her flickr page shows many of her little people. I must say that I think they are absolutely amazing and I love them. That being said, I was not a fan of the pattern she posted for her people, so I decided to make my own, that's what Frankenguy is. He is the pattern that I needed to make a present for a dear friend of mine.

My friend is a HUGE fan of anime. When I e-mailed her the pictures of the Serenity cast she made a comment about wanting the characters of InuYasha. It took me three weeks, but I was extremely happy with the results.

It took me three weeks, because I needed to make a pattern for the bodies, figure out the best way to do their hair, and come up with patterns for their clothing.

This is a picture of my friend. She didn't like the picture, but I wanted to show as much of her reaction as possible, so I blacked out her eyes for her.

This is what happens when I don't have a job.

This is what happens when I don't have a job. If I don't feel productive in life I start to produce tangible objects that prove I'm not just a bum. In the last week I have made a hat for my dad and created a amigurumi "doll" pattern. It took three attempts, but he is complete. He is an abandoned scarf that found second life as practice yarn. I present Frankenguy.

I MADE A CUPCAKE!

I crochet! My mother taught me freshman year in high school and I love it. It makes me feel productive when I sit on my butt and watch TV for a couple hours, because at the end of watching Psych and Monk, I have a brand new hat, or in this case a cup cake. I found the pattern here:

I had a blast! And I have posted my outcome.

I swore I would never have a crochet blog!

I swore to myself that I would never have a crochet blog. I respect those out there that have them, however, I never thought I would be one of them. I like to create things, I'm a writer, a crocheter, and I draw (very poorly, but I enjoy it). I thought that my writing would define my blog space. And yes I do have a blog on which I simply write, but my crochet projects have been making their way onto that blog as of late, and this has been upsetting me, because my other blog was never meant to house my crocheted things. So enter this simple blog. I give up my projects for discussion and appreciate your feedback.
